Reform and opening up is a great new revolution of the Chinese people under CPC leadership in the new era. It was a decisive step that changed the future of contemporary China, and has a direct bearing on achieving the Two Centenary Goals and the Chinese Dream. 

In 1978, China initiated the historical journey of reform and opening up under Deng Xiaoping. Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, China has introduced a series of reforms to its rural and urban areas, first in pilot programs and then for nationwide implementation. From economic reform to comprehensive reform, the Chinese people have written a glorious chapter of national development with their own hands. All this has not only changed China, but also profoundly impacted the world.

For 40 years, the Chinese people have persevered in national building and reform and opening up, immensely freeing up the productive forces and pushing unprecedented change in China. Today, China has become the world's second largest economy, biggest industrial country, biggest trader in goods, and biggest foreign-reserves holder. The Chinese no longer suffer from hunger or poverty, and are now welcoming a moderately prosperous society in all respects. It has helped more than 700 million people out of poverty according to the current UN poverty line, contributing to 70 percent of the global poverty reduction effort.

For 40 years, the Chinese people have upheld reform and opening up as a basic national policy, introducing all-dimensional opening up by connecting itself to the world. As a responsible major country, it has contributed to more than 30% of global growth for many years, powering and stabilizing the world economy and promoting peace and development of humanity.

For 40 years, the CPC has led the Chinese people to clear obstacles in people's mind and in institutions that hindered development, opening up a new path to boost the nation's vitality and pool strength. Catching up with the times, the Chinese people have become prosperous and the nation js gaining strength.

The fundamental reason behind all our achievements and progress is attributed to the exploration of the path of Chinese socialism, the formation of the theories of Chinese socialism, the establishment of the system of Chinese socialism, and the development of the culture of Chinese socialism.

Reform and opening up has been the most salient feature of contemporary China and the brightest banner of the CPC. Experience has eloquently proved that reform and opening up is critical to shaping the course of development of contemporary China. It is the source of the country's progress in the new era, the key to China's catching up with the rest of the world, and the only road leading to Chinese socialism and the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
