The Development and Innovation of the Communist

Party of China’s Economic Thinking for a New Era

Zhang Leisheng

The economic thinking history of the Communist Party of China is a centennial history that integrates the adaption of Marxist political economy to the Chinese context and Chinese-style Marxist political economy. Since the 18th National Party Congress, the development of the CPC’s economic thinking has entered a new era. The Chinese Communists, such as Xi Jinping, have adhered to the principles and methods of Marxist political economy and deeply understood China’s economic and social history. They have created the Xi Jinping Thinking on the Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. In the centennial history of the CPC’s economic thinking, Xi Jinping Thinking on the Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era has made a significant contribution to Marxist political economy and opened up new prospects for the development of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics.

The Logic and Practice of Xi Jinping’s Concept of

Impartial Justice

Yao Li

Since the 18th National Party Congress, President Xi Jinping has put forward a series of new ideas, concepts and strategies on impartial justice. The concept of impartial justice is an important component of Xi Jinping’s thinking on the rule of law. As the logic behind Xi Jinping’s concept of impartial justice, judicial capacity building demonstrates the theoretical and practical achievements the CPC has made in systematic judicial reform and legal development by positioning judicial power, updating judicial philosophy, allocating judicial powers and safeguarding judicial operation. This reflects the Chinese Communists’ scientific answer to the contemporary question of “how to build socialist judicial theories with Chinese characteristics and better promote fairness and justice.” Xi Jinping’s concept of impartial justice aims at making the people feel fairness and justice in every judicial case tried. Its theme is to build a fair, efficient and authoritative socialist judicial system. Xi’s concept prioritizes the guidance of the idea that the judicial system works for the people. The concept constitutes a rich, well-layered, logical and insightful system of ideas, which must be implemented in the practice of modernizing Chinese justice in the new era.

Multiple Crises of Neoliberal Capitalism under the Covid-19 Pandemic: An Interview with Italian Left-Wing Scholars

Li Kaixuan

The Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 posed a huge test to the political, economic and social governance of countries around the world. After the US-led Western capitalist countries adopted measures such as blockade and isolation, the public health crisis there has not been significantly alleviated, and the economic and social crisis has intensified instead. The authors and editors-in-chief of The Pandemic under Capitalism of the 21st Century, Alessandra Ciattini, professor of History, Culture and Religions at Sapienza University of Rome, and Marco A. Pirone, assistant professor of the Department of Cultural Heritages-Cultural Studies at University of Palermo, have profound insights into the Covid-19 crisis in the capitalist world. They argue that Covid-19 has exposed the governance deficiencies of capitalist countries and aggravated the economic and social crisis that began in 2007-2008. The neoliberal mode of production and consumption and its erosion of the welfare state are the underlying reasons why the capitalist world has fallen into multiple crises. Only through unity and cooperation can human society make Covid-19 go away as soon as possible, and the socialist road is gradually becoming the hope for human civilization to get out of the crisis of capitalism.

The Problem Logic of Western Marxism and Its

Contemporary Value

Wang Yuchen

Western Marxism’s debate on the Western strategy and tactics of revolution leads to the inquiry into the essence of Marxist philosophy, which constitutes the theoretical starting point of the Western Marxism’s problem logic. Western Marxism is opposed to interpreting Marxist philosophy as a kind of modern epistemological philosophy based on the standpoint of modern rationalist philosophy, arguing that this interpretation negates the critical value function of Marxist philosophy and is vulnerable to the attack of bourgeois ideology and the reified consciousness of the market economy. Therefore, Western Marxism emphasizes that the characteristics of Marx’s materialist philosophy should be elucidated at the breaking point in modern philosophy, and advocates that the function and mission of Marxist philosophy should be to pay attention to people’s survival circumstances and realize the freedom of individuals. As a result, Western Marxists have formed an academic tradition of focusing on the critical and realistic aspects of Marxist philosophy, and launched a critique of the cultural ideology of contemporary Western society. They have revealed the reality of the overall governance of contemporary Western society and the overall alienation of human living conditions. They have emphasized the importance of forming the mature class consciousness of the proletariat and the independent personality of individuals through the critique of cultural ideology. The problem logic of Western Marxism not only exerts important social and theoretical effects in the West, but also has a profound impact on the research on Marxist philosophy in China. This makes Western Marxism an important theoretical resource for promoting the theoretical construction of Marxist philosophy in China and solving the problem of Chinese modernity.

Multiple Observations on Artificial Intelligence

from the Perspectives of Philosophy of Technology

Xiao Feng

Philosophy of technology provides a unique perspective for understanding artificial intelligence. Its unique views of delimitation between technology and science, of technological society, of technological development , and of technological humanities can be enlightening and guide people to carry out in-depth exploration of issues related to artificial intelligence. These questions include whether artificial intelligence is mainly science or technology, whether the research program of artificial intelligence philosophy should be ethical or epistemological, whether the social effect of using artificial intelligence is based on technological determinism or social construction, whether the development of artificial intelligence is mainly based on the change of technological paradigms or the gradual progression of conventions, whether artificial intelligence foretells the future of optimism or pessimism for human future. These questions are extremely valuable for enriching and advancing the development of the philosophy of artificial intelligence.
