The 2017 Euro-Asia Economic Forum opened in Xi'an on September 21. Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

Wang Yang pointed out that the "Belt and Road" Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping has opened a new chapter for mutual learning and win-win cooperation between European and Asian countries. The Euro-Asia Economic Forum serves as a window for China's opening to the West and an important platform for China and European and Asian countries to build the "Belt and Road" together. China is willing to capitalize on the forum and carry forward the spirit of Silk Road, in an effort to deepen understanding, enhance mutual trust, and expand cooperation between China and European and Asian countries, turn potential advantages into more pragmatic cooperation results, enhance the vitality of regional economic development, and benefit the people.

He also stressed that to promote the implementation of an array of important consensuses reached at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is an important task for pragmatic cooperation between China and European and Asian countries. It is necessary to further deepen policy coordination by strengthening synergy of development strategies, improving the policy coordination mechanism, and coordinating and solving various problems in cooperation. It is necessary to further strengthen facilities connectivity by accelerating the integrated connectivity of land, marine, aerial and online facilities, and breaking restraints on economic and trade cooperation. It is necessary to further enhance unimpeded trade by facilitating trade agreements and gradually improving institutional arrangements for regional economic cooperation. It is necessary to further expand financial integration, as evidenced by the fact that China encourages multilateral financial institutions such as policy-oriented financial institutions, the Silk Road Fund and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to increase financial support for regional cooperation projects. It is necessary to further promote people-to-people bonds by comprehensively expanding the exchange and cooperation in the cultural field and shape a pattern of mutual tolerance among different civilizations and intimate ties among the people of different countries.

Chen Yuan, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Honorary Director of the Forum Organizing Committee, attended the opening ceremony.
