World Congress of Philosophy Held in China for the First Time

　　More than 6,000 representative philosophers and philosophy enthusiasts from 121 countries and regions gathered in Beijing to attend the XXIV World Congress of Philosophy on the theme of "Learning to Be Human" on August 13. It is reported that this is the first time the world's largest philosophical conference with a history of 118 years was held in China.

　　This is the first time that the World Congress of Philosophy takes the Chinese philosophical ideology and cultural tradition as the basic academic framework and comprehensively addresses philosophy on the theme of "Learning to Be Human." It reflects the importance that the global philosophical community attaches to Chinese philosophy and its cultural values, and highlights China's growing influence in the field of global humanities research. The conference will last for one week from August 13 to 20 and include more than 1,000 sessions of academic activities, including plenary sessions, special forums, invitational lectures, breakout sessions, roundtables, special meetings and student meetings.

　　It is understood that experts and scholars from 121 countries and regions around the world were invited who shared their philosophical reflections on cultural and ideological traditions in different regions of the world. It is noteworthy that this conference also provided a stage for China to show the world the profound heritage of traditional Chinese philosophy and the achievements of academic research in contemporary Chinese philosophy and humanities. All sections of the conference highlighted the Chinese ideological traditions and the characteristics of contemporary China, such as the "Wang Yangming Lecture" focusing on Chinese traditional philosophy, and the commemorative lectures celebrating the 200th anniversary of Marx's birth. Du Weiming, a famous Confucian scholar, and Mcbridge, the former Chairman of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies and a famous Marxist philosophy researcher, gave speeches.

　　"Learning to be human and strive for perfection." Lin Jianhua, President of Peking University and Chairman of the Chinese Organizing Committee of the XXIV World Congress of Philosophy, expressed his hope that this dialogue between Chinese philosophy and world philosophy will promote mutual understanding between China and the world, seek consensus in difference and pluralism, eliminate barriers in dialogues and discussions, and contribute the wisdom of philosophers to the community with a shared future for mankind.
